Therapy for Teens
Teen Therapy for residents of Georiga, Florida and Ohio
"It’s no secret that adolescence is one of the hardest times in a person’s life."
The pressure from parents, school, peers, and social media to act, look, and be a certain way can be overwhelming. If balancing a world of expectations isn’t enough, you also have to deal with body changes, identity issues, and a lot of uncertainty about the future. With so much going on, it’s easy for teens to feel anxious, depressed, isolated, angry, and confused. When things get really bad, sometimes the last person you want to talk to is a parent.
Teen therapy is a confidential outlet for adolescents to be honest about their thoughts and feelings.
The therapist acts as an objective, safe adult who can hear the teen’s concerns without judgment, and give clear feedback in a way that resonates with them. Contrary to what a lot of people believe, teen therapy is not an extension of the parenting relationship. As a therapist that works with teens, it’s my job to create a safe space where my clients can open up to me. I’m not here to be another parent, or to be like your friends at school. For 50 minutes once a week, or once every other week, our sessions are a chance for you to be completely yourself.
It’s normal for some parents to feel apprehension about letting their teen go to therapy. They want to make sure their child is safe, and getting the best care possible. I understand that completely, and will always inform a parent if I believe their teen is at risk of being harmed. It takes a lot of courage to trust this process, but I’m confident that teen therapy can help improve adolescents’ mental and emotional health, social functioning, self-acceptance, and family relationships. I invite you to schedule a consultation with me for us to talk about the process and if we are a good fit.
